I think it’s safe to say that I have a pretty specific design style. In each space I design, I always gravitate toward certain design selections and materials that end up pairing really well together. Those same design elements also come together to accomplish a look that is very much my own.
When I describe my style, I have a hard time summarizing it into just two or three words. I start to ramble and my description of my “style” ends up becoming a novel rather than a short title. BUT if I had to paraphrase, I would call my style Modern Boho Beachy. I want more than anything for my home to feel like a HOME. Not like a showroom or staged house. I’m also obsessed with the beach. I grew up going to the beach and the lake, so water is EVERYTHING to me. If I could move to the beaches of California or Florida, I would. In fact, for a minute there, Chad and I even considered it, but simply couldn’t stand being that far away from family.
Anyways, I digress.
My point is — When it comes to my design style, I pull inspiration from the things I love. Then I begin to break down certain elements that come from that initial inspiration. For example, the beach reminds me of aged wood, coastal textures, blues, whites etc. The beach also reminds me of fresh air, which pulls in a simplistic aesthetic — aka — the “modern” element of my style. And what else does the beach remind me of? A touch of boho. Give me that splash of hippie, ok? Just a splash though – I’m not what I would consider a “free spirit,” so let’s not get too carried away, alright? 🙂 🙂
Ok, so let’s get to it already. Today I wanted to share the top 10 design materials I used in my home. Each time I went shopping for the house, I focused on these materials and textures to assure the overall feel of the home would be cohesive. Some rooms in my house feel more beachy, some feel more modern, and some feel more boho, which makes each room feel special in its own way. I didn’t want the entire house to look exactly the same, but by sticking to these few specific elements, I was able to give my entire home the same overall style.
