Poolside Makeover: The Reveal

It’s been a long time coming. Last summer we met with our pool company (Pulliam Pools) to design our pool. Construction began in the fall (you can see the entire process here) and the pool was finally complete by November. We installed our much-loved turf grass shortly after and since then we’ve been SO in love with our new backyard. The only thing missing was that finishing touch – the decor.

Today I’m teaming up with Hayneedle to finish off the design of my backyard. Those warm summer days are about to hit and we needed to get our pool “summer-ready” before the temperature hits the triple digits.

We’re outside every night and every weekend, so creating an outdoor oasis was top on our priority list. This is our first summer in this house, so we wanted to make those memories last forever. By adding things like lounge chairs, rocking chairs, a few shaded seating areas, bold patterned pillows, a quirky pool float and a fun game of corn hole, we were able to turn our backyard dream into a reality.

If you read yesterday’s post about my design concept, you already know that my vision for the pool and backyard was to make the space feel like a resort – more specifically, the resort we stayed at when we got married. I wanted a good combination of southern California and Palm Springs.

As a refresher, here’s the design board I created for the space:

Here are some of the items we ordered for the makeover:

  1. Hanging Egg Chairs (cushion color: black)
  2. Lounge Chairs (set of 2,  color: black)
  3. Stripe Lumbar Pillows
  4. Swan Pool Float
  5. Gas Fire Pit Table
  6. Customizable Corn Hole Game Set
  7. Black and White Striped Umbrella
  8. Umbrella Table
  9. Black Rocking Chairs

Ok, now that you know my vision, let’s move onto the big reveal! Here’s a before and after of the backyard:

And here is the full reveal:

These hanging egg chairs have to be one of my favorite purchases of the entire makeover. They’re made of a white resin and I chose the black seat cushion (even though they have other color options available). They actually come with a nice stand, but I since I knew they were going to be used on our back patio, I was able to nix some of the hardware (and the stand) that the chair came with and hang the chairs with a construction-grade  rope that I found at my local hardware store.

I’m also really loving our new fire pit table. We placed it between our two hanging chairs and it’s a perfect place to set our drinks while we relax by the pool.

One of my favorite things about this fire table (other than it’s modern design) is the fact that the propane tank hides within the table. This might have been it’s biggest selling point for me. Most fire pits have a propane tank that’s external, so you have to set up a side table and the tank hose is almost always visible. This table doesn’t need that because the tank is hidden within the table. I searched high and low for a fire pit with a hidden propane tank and this was by far my absolute favorite.

This is another little seating area I created so we could have some shade available for when you’re taking a break from the sun. I paired these black rocking chairs with this black and white striped umbrella and used this umbrella table as the base.

I also set up our layout chairs in our layout deck and was so pleased with how it all came together so perfectly. The black and white lumbar pillows really pull the entire look together. We’ve had these pillows sitting out in the intense Texas sun for a few weeks now and they still haven’t faded one bit!

We also wanted to utilize the grassy area of our yard for when we have company over. These customizable corn hole games were the perfect fit. I was able to pick out the exact colors I wanted for the base color (I chose white) and also for the border color (I chose black). You can even chose the colors of the actual corn hole bags as well. For those I chose black and navy.

As you can see, we’re so happy with the final result of the space. We’re outside every night with Hudson and in just a few months our little girl will be joining us as well. Our goal was to create not only a backyard oasis for ourselves, but to also create a space where we plan on making lasting memories for our kids.
