Poolside Makeover: The Design

If you’ve been following along with our backyard makeover, you’ve seen the entire pool building process as well as the installation of our artificial turf grass. In just a matter of months, our backyard has completely transformed.

Now that summer is quickly approaching, I thought it would be fun to team up with Hayneedle to really complete the design of my backyard, specifically our pool. We quickly noticed that we needed things like layout chairs, pool floats, a poolside seating area and some outdoor games to make the space feel complete. We’re outside so often that it’s really another living room for us. Making it livable was a must.

When conceptualizing our backyard, my #1 priority was to make it feel like we were on vacation every day. We don’t EVER take off work, and we’ve only been on ONE vacation together, so I felt very passionately about turning our backyard into an outdoor oasis.

For the overall look and feel of the pool and backyard, I was envisioning Palm Springs meets Laguna Beach. We got married at The Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel and it will forever bring happy memories for us. I took design inspiration from both of these places and came up with this concept here:

Here are some of the items we ordered for the pool:

  1. Hanging Egg Chairs (cushion color: black)
  2. Lounge Chairs (set of 2,  color: black)
  3. Stripe Lumbar Pillows
  4. Swan Pool Float
  5. Gas Fire Pit Table
  6. Customizable Corn Hole Game Set
  7. Black and White Striped Umbrella
  8. Umbrella Table
  9. Black Rocking Chairs

There were a few things we needed right off the bat. Things like some lounge chairs for laying out and a sitting area for shade. We also envision doing a lot of entertaining by the pool, so a fun outdoor game was also on our wish list.

Since our color scheme is primarily black and white, I customized this cornhole set by ordering a white base with a black border as the accent. There are a ton of different color combinations you can choose though. You can see all of those color combos here.

One of my favorite products I chose for this makeover has to be these amazing resin hanging egg chairs. I’m seriously SO obsessed with them.

Instead of using the stand that they came with, we decided to mix things up and hang them from our patio ceiling instead. They’re super comfortable and I’m so glad we ordered two because Chad and I would be fighting over whose seat it was if we didn’t each have our own. Anyways – more on that in tomorrow’s reveal post!

I’m also super in love with our fire pit table as well. We wanted something that was high enough to actually set drinks and food on when we’re not using the fire feature, and this table was perfect. It’s more of a coffee table height, so we’re able to eat off of it or simply rest our feet on it when the fire isn’t burning.

I also searched high and low for a table with a hidden propane tank, and this one has it. I love that I didn’t have to buy a separate propane tank table since the propane tank is hidden within the table. It was THE thing that sold me on this table. Well… other than its sleek and modern appearance of course!

It even comes with a fabric cover, so if you have it outside and uncovered, you can protect the table year-round by leaving the cover on. Many of these tables don’t come with a cover, so you either have to custom make one, or risk the weather. Yes, these are made for outside, but keeping it covered during our bad Texas storms sure does help me sleep at night.

So today was just a sneak peek of our backyard vision and tomorrow I’m revealing the entire makeover from top to bottom. I can’t wait to share it with you guys, so stay tuned!
