It’s fall y’all! I have to admit — fall is one of my favorite times of the year. Although I have to put up with hours and hours of annoying football (and the pre-game on ESPN – sigh), the cooler weather and pumpkins cascading from the front porch totally make up for it!
October is right around the corner, and although it’s still 90+ degrees here in Texas, you better believe that we’re already busting out the fall decor. Today I’m teaming up with one of my partners, Shaw Floors, to bring you my fall home tour. They’ve been my go-to peeps during our year-long renovation and if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have a home tour to share with you guys! Well, maybe I would have a tour, but it would probably be for Halloween because our old floors were SCARY. bahaha! I’m so funny.
Anyhoo! This year I decided to decorate just the downstairs and front porch. When we moved last year, we tripled the size of our house, so it will take me some time to build up my collection of fall decor. But who knows, I’m sure I’ll soon become a victim of the seasonal isle at HomeGoods and Target. I wouldn’t be shocked.
But for now, we’ll start off with my fall front porch!
As you can see, I don’t always stick to the traditional fall colors. I like to add blue and white hues into the mix so it translates well with the rest of my home decor and style.
And here is our front living room:
It’s hard to believe that just a few months ago our living room looked like THIS:
Our home renovation was close to completion and our new floors were finally being installed. Shortly after the install (which took about 4 days to install the entire house, which is about 3,500 SF) we were able to move in. I can’t tell you how thankful we are to be spending our first fall actually INSIDE our house rather than renovating it from afar.
If you’re wondering what type of floor we chose, we ultimately fell in love with World Traveler (style of wood) in Trail (color of wood) from Shaw Floors. It’s a 4″ solid hickory, which is one of the hardest wood species. It’s stood up really well to our 1-year-old. He drags his toys ALL over this floor and still no scratches.
Although these floors are pre-finished, they are literally hand-scraped. Not done by a machine! We’ve been living with these floors for about 9 months now and are still SO happy with our decision.
As you can see, I don’t like to decorate for the season with a lot of themed decorations. I like to keep things neutral and soft. My goal is to create a fall “mood” rather than a space that feels over done and kitchy.
I kept the entire downstairs consistent by buying using similar items and a cohesive color scheme. Light blue, orange and yellow were the colors of choice. And of course you gotta throw in some gold here and there as well!
So what do you think? Are you still hungry for more fall decor ideas? If so, make sure to check out the next round of tours, At The Picket Fence, for more ideas.
