I don’t think it’s an odd thought for someone to wonder why we blog. I completely get it. It’s something I too wondered before I began blogging. I mean, you don’t get paid, it takes up a TON of your time, and every now and then you will get criticized for your projects or simply get no recognition at all. It’s something us bloggers have gotten used to because in reality, we really can’t complain. We have the opportunity to share our passion with the world and to do it our OWN way. We have the opportunity to work with people and companies we never would have imagined and meet fellow passion driven people that we never would have met if it weren’t for our blog. Yes, it takes a TON of hard work, late nights, lessons learned and days of doubt, but in the end, it’s all overwhelmingly worth it.
For example, some people might look at me like I’m crazy. I have a full time job, I run a side business in graphic design and photography, I take on interior design projects when I can, my husband and I are looking to start flipping homes this year, I have another secret project in the works, and on top of all that, I run my full time blog as well. Oh, and I secretly dream about having my own show. So yeah, things have been a bit crazy around here to say the least. I feel like I’m literally being pulled from every direction and I simply can’t do it all.
So right now you’re probably wondering, why do you do it all?? Well, there are many reasons. Some of these things I have to do in order to live. AKA, job + paycheck = stability. BUT for me, job+paycheck doesn’t = passion. So what do I do? I spend the rest of the hours in my day doing things I love and creating things I love. So for me, blog+crafting+DIYing+interior designing+writing = happy Amy:) Soooo it just to happens that when you add all that up, you get…main job+graphic design job+ photography business+interior design projects+searching for houses to flip+secret project in the works+blog = a little bit of stress every now and then. BUT, remember how I said it’s all worth it?? Well… drum roll please!
A few weeks ago I received an email from one of the editors of Oprah.com. Yes. You heard it correctly. Oprah.com. I just about peed my pants when I saw the email and almost didn’t believe it was real. She was asking if it would be ok if they could use a photo from my IKEA hack that I posted a few months back. They were going to mention my blog and include a link back to my post. I didn’t see the email until 11:00 that night, but I couldn’t imagine going to bed without replying right that second! With NO hesitation, I replied YES, re-edited a few of the photos (oh yes, at 11 pm) and sent them her way. I wasn’t really sure when the post was going live, but she said she would email me when it did. Fast forward to Tuesday night. She emailed me the link. It was real. I was shocked. Two years ago before I started my tiny little blog, I NEVER would have imagined I would have a mention on Oprah.com. So how would you imagine a shocked/happy/surprised gal like me would react? Well… Any of you Seinfeld lovers out there? Any of you remember the “Elaine Dance”…?
Yupp. That was me for about 10 straight minutes until the hubby said he was ready for dinner. He totally put a damper on my happy dance. It’s ok though. I probably needed to come down from cloud nine anyways. To see my feature, you can click [here] or click on the image below. I have also started a Press page listing some of the companies/organizations I’ve worked with in the past. Click [here] if you want to see my other collaborations!
So needless to say, blogging is amazing. Blogging is hard. Blogging is time consuming, yet SO incredibly rewarding. It has opened me up to SO many opportunities that I couldn’t be more thankful for. I only hope to continue to hustle and continue to do my best and see where it takes me. Thank you everyone who stops by my little home in blog land. Even if I don’t reply to every comment or to every email, each word of encouragement means the world to me. YOU all keep me going every week! Thank you friends:)
