Today’s project just might define the phrase, “trash to treasure.” The other day, my neighboor almost threw away an old chicken feeder… or makeshift dog feeder. Either way, it was made out of galvanized metal and looked super cool and vintage!

It was left in their monthly bulk trash pile and sat in their front yard for days and days. I had been eyeing the strange contraption and just had to take a closer look. Just as I thought, it was JUST as cool up close! I snatched it out of their trash pile before the trash men could take it away and knew exactly what I was going to use it for – a planter!

Material List:

1. Draping plant for top part of planter
2. Flowers for bottom part of planter
3. Recycled boxes to fill planter
4. Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting mix, found [here]

As you can see, my little back porch needed some major love! There was WAY too much clutter and I just coudn’t stand it any more.

After the makeover was finished, I felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. The flowers really fluffed up the space and made it much more welcoming. I used to avoid going out there at all costs, but now I can’t help but peep out my back window every chance I get! It’s so refreshing to see those beautiful flowers smiling back at me:)

Since my vintage planter was so tall, I used some recycled boxes to build up the base. This makes the planter much lighter and also doesn’t waste any of the potting soil.

Place the Miracle Grow potting soil into your planter, insert your plant of choice, then fill in the holes with more of the potting mix.

Then sit back, and enjoy!

So what do you all think?? Do you have any vintage pieces that can be turned into a planter? I had a blast with this project and it was so simple! It only took me about 30 minutes from start to finish. Not too bad if you ask me!
